Everyone can be a manager, but the actual key is whether you are cut out to be a good manager. We have all had those managers that we remember for very negative reasons. We can easily pinpoint why these managers made our work lives more difficult, but do we consider these factors when faced with a management opportunity of our own? Maybe instead of pursuing higher status and the bigger paycheck, we look at our personalities to discover if we are truly meant for management status.
When it comes time for you to decide on moving into a management position, consider whether you have some of these key attributes of a good leader:
- Ability to communicate skillfully
- Ability to coach employees
- Ability to handle conflict easily
- Ability to delegate properly
- Ability to take responsibility
