The Plant Integration Engineer (Operations and Maintenance) will focus on integrating operational and maintenance requirements into the Nuclear Island system and structure and components (SSC) design. In this role, you will act as a plant integration engineer for advanced nuclear reactor projects or other highly technical projects. The successful candidate will integrate and coordinate with engineers working on SSC design, the Operations organization, and system and equipment maintenance. The Plant Integration Engineer will work as part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists. 


  • Develop and/or coordinate operational and maintenance (O&M) requirements into Plant system, structure, and component (SSC) design

  • Develop maintenance strategies for critical plant SSCs

  • Develop, maintain, and refine plant level and system level requirement, specification, and strategy documents related to plant operations and maintenance activities over the lifecycle of a nuclear facility

  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing plant SSC designs for the Natrium reactor.

    • Identify and ensure effective application of O&M requirements from the correct design codes into the design of plant SSCs such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.

  • Support the development of radioactive material handling activities and controls within the design of engineered systems, including fuel handling activities, radioactive material transfers, remote operations, and other nuclear handling activities

  • Provide (O&M) technical direction and guidance to engineers in applicable nuclear and non-nuclear related design standards.

  • Analyze and allocate regulatory O&M criteria and standards to complex system and process system design.

  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for related design activities, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule.

  • Interface with design disciplines across the Natrium team (such as mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and nuclear) to identify and develop plant design information and specify SSC O&M design and performance criteria.

  • Develop and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, etc.

  • Support design reviews as plant SSCs designs are established and refined.

Key Qualifications and Skills  

  • B.S. degree in Engineering required, preferably Mechanical, Nuclear, or Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years direct experience in a regulated industry required.

  • Nuclear plant operators licensing or Naval qualification desired. 

  • Prior design experience with nuclear technology (e.g., U.S. Navy Nuclear Program or other advanced reactor design such as SMR) is a plus.

  • Experience in multi-discipline and multi-organization design integration required.

  • Experience in high temperature design highly desired.

  • Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear handling process systems, or similar high-performance systems or equipment design.

  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.

  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction.

  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.

  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.

  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.

  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III and ASME B31.3 Process Piping/Equipment
